meerecompany (CEO Joon Koo Kim) has announced that Professor Byung Soh Min of Severance Hospital’s Department of Surgery successfully performed an anterior resection using the company’s surgical robot Revo-i, which was broadcast live to participants of the 15th Paraguayan Congress of Coloproctology (XV Congreso Paraguayo de Coloproctología) on September 17th.

The congress took place from September 18th to 19th in Asunción, Paraguay, with around 600 medical professionals in attendance from Latin America, including Paraguay, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. The live surgery session was organised as a pre-congress program the day before the main event, providing international participants with a first-hand opportunity to witness the excellence of Korean robotic surgical technology.

The live surgery was conducted at Sanatorio Santa Barbara in Paraguay and broadcast both at the congress venue and online. Over the course of about one hour, Professor Byung Soh Min performed an anterior resection procedure on a male patient diagnosed with rectal cancer using the Revo-i system. Prior to the operation, he explained the patient’s case, surgical plan, and robotic port placement, then proceeded to successfully complete the surgery.

This live surgery was particularly meaningful as it included technical sharing and training opportunities with local medical professionals. Following the procedure, Prof. Min conducted a hands-on educational session for the Sanatorio Santa Barbara surgical team, sharing his experience in Revo-i robotic surgery. The session received highly positive feedback, with local medical staff showing strong interest and active participation.

Prof. Min remarked, “For a successful robotic surgery, precise port placement and surgical proficiency are crucial. I am honored to have shared my Revo-i surgical experience directly with Paraguayan medical professionals through this live demonstration.”

Ho Kun Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the Surgical Robot Division at meerecompany, added, “It was a meaningful occasion for Korean surgeons to showcase their expertise on the global stage and share their knowledge in person. We will continue to create opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange among medical professionals worldwide through Revo-i.”

Sanatorio Santa Barbara, a general hospital located in Asunción, Paraguay, installed Revo-i earlier this year, marking the official start of robotic surgeries on-site. The hospital currently performs procedures across departments, including urology and general surgery, positioning itself as a leader in expanding robotic surgery in Paraguay.
